When mounting your Malcolm 3X or 6X short scope on a heavy recoil gun, it is advantageous to use a sliding lock ring to mitigate the recoil absorbed by the optic.
While there are scopes like the Unertl that have the recoil springs installed to keep the scope in place, some marksmen prefer manually setting the scope in "battery" to ensure consistent eye relief and scope placement.
With the sliding lock ring installed, the shooter will need to pull the Malcolm 3X or 6X short scope back after every shot.
