Fine Vintage Riflescopes for Fine Vintage Rifles...
William Malcolm is the oldest name in scope manufacturing, originally established in 1855. Malcolm Optics has stepped back in the time to redesign this historic line of telescopic rifle sights, providing today’s shooter a period correct scope with modern optics.
Both the 3X 17″ and 6X 18″ Malcolm scopes are ideal for many of the single-shot and lever-action cartridge rifles produced during the late 1880s and 1890s. An ever growing selection of the mounts and accessories now include the side mounts for various sharps rifle models, Winchester Model 1885 rifle, H&R “ Buffalo Classic”, Winchester ’73, ’76, ’92 & ‘94 models, Henry “Golden Boy” .22, Marlin ’94 / ’95 models, and others.
Every glass lens in the Malcolm 3X short scope is fully multi-coated. The scope is also nitrogen purged and sealed. The Malcolm 3X and 6X short scope are among the finest quality reproduction vintage riflescopes available today!Short 6X Malcolm Scope Manual [download]
Like the original Winchester A5 scopes from the late 1880s-1890s, the Malcolm 3X and 6X short telescopic comes with authentically styled "caged" rear mount and front mount. The elevation and windage can be adjusted in the rear mount.
I really wanted to love this scope. It is very nice looking, overall. Meaning the vintage look. Unfortunately, this specific scope that I received has pitting near the brand name (about a 1'x2" area) and there were decent sized gouges, scrapes, etc along the length of the body of the scope. Hi-Lux did provide an RMA# when I sent pictures but I did have to pay for the return shipping. I have seen other scopes from Hi-Lux that looked great so hopefully this is just a one-off. I will write another review once I get the replacement scope from Hi-Lux.
excellent optics. only issue i has was with the mount kit for the Henry Big Boy.
the Henry needs 1/4 inch long thread on the screws, the supplied mount screws came 3/8 thread length
The scope works nicely. I’m using it on a Winchester 1885 High Wall in 38-55. There is a problem in the rear adjustable ring/mount. The plunger that loads the scope tube against the windage and elevation adjusting screws does not allow full travel adjustment because the plunger cap either bottoms out or the spring becomes coil bound. I loosened the screwed in housing cap about one turn to allow me the necessary travel to sight in my rifle. I plan to place a washer between the cap and the housing which will allow me to tighten the cap while maintaining the desired movement of the elevation/windage adjustment screws.
Ordered this scope on Tuesday 7Th January,it arrived 9Th January. Very Pleased I live in the UK.I took time mounting this scope to my Henry Big Boy 357.I bought suitable mounts at the same time,I did have to cut down the mounting screws supplied to clear the bolt mechanism,( no big deal hacksaw and a file).
The service, information and communication I received was second to none. All the information I was given I found to be true and correct.Mounted on the rifle it looks just perfect,I shot it for the first time today and zero was almost spot on @ 25yds (this is the starting distance they suggest before moving out to 50Yds,this I will do on Friday when i shoot outdoors.Extremly pleased with the looks and performance up to now and I
don't think disappointment will come into the equation .It also caused quite a lot of admiration @ my local club.I am so pleased with the results @ the moment, that I am considering buying a second one for my .22 Henry Golden Boy.I would certainly recommend both the company and product.
I read all the reviews of this item prior to purchase and even consulted Hi-Lux customer service. I purchased the 1885 Winchester Mounting Kit, which worked great and was easy to install. The instructions for mounting the scope were not bad, I was able to successfully install it on the rifle and that was about all. There was not really enough adjustment in the scopes external mounts for me to satisfactory zero the gun. Another reviewer suggested purchase of another mounting system that Hi Lux advertises as working with this scope. This system is $249.00, I wanted to order it to begin with and the customer service rep told me I didn't need it and would not definatively say this kit would work with theWinchester 1885 mounting blocks. The scope and it's mountssare presently laying on my workbench and theis rifle back in the safe. I hated to give the scope three stars because optically it is better than that. But when it's mounts are not the quality of the optic it's self, I could ony justify three. I haven't made up my mind what to do with the scope at this point. I would like to purchase the better mount kit, but like assurance that it wlll fit the mounting blocks on my rifle. When I mentioned the holiday discount of ten percent to the customer service guy, he either didn't know this item was not included in the sale or just didn't tell me. I guess you can tell this has been an extremely aggravating purchase.
